Preservation Award for Rehabilitation, Historic Hawai’i Foundation
DESCRIPTION: Congress established the Military Housing Privatization Initiative (MHPI) in 1996 as a tool to help the military improve the quality of life for its service members by improving the condition of their housing through privatization with developers, who in turn own, maintain and operate the family housing community via long-term leases.
Hired by Actus Lend Lease (a design-build company) as the Architectural Design Manager for the Hickam Air Force Base project, one of the largest historic residential community rehabilitation projects in the nation, the project involved the renovation of over 600 historic homes and apartments buildings, a historic community center, and the restoration of 24 historic residences, all designed and laid-out in the “Garden Style” era of the late 1920s.
